Why I created Hot Money Mom
Becoming a mother changes your relationship with money in a way no one warns you about. Suddenly the numbers on a screen carry more weight. Every decision feels tied to security, stability, and the future of the tiny people you brought into the world. Yet the moment money becomes more important, it somehow becomes harder to talk about.
Meanwhile, money itself can become a huge source of stress.
Mothers are navigating some of the most complicated money decisions of their lives, and most of us are doing it without clarity, support, or a space that understands our reality.
What struck me even more was how taboo money still is. We will gladly talk about sleep regressions, birth stories, and even sex before we talk honestly about our bank accounts. Everyone whispers about money, but no one explains it. And that silence makes everything feel harder than it needs to be.
When I became a mother, I kept looking for financial guidance that understood the real life pressures of raising children. The constant expenses. The mental load. The tricks of navigating daycare, mat leave income changes, and the cost of everything rising at the exact moment your free time disappears.
Instead, all I found was the same tired script:
“Cancel your subcriptions”
“Clip coupons”
“Stop buying lattes”
However, the real challenge for most mothers is not the small purchases. It is the invisible weight of trying to make smart financial decisions while raising humans, working, managing households, and trying to keep a tiny shred of sanity. Money touches everything, yet no one gives moms the tools to understand it easily.
So in 20 minute increments in between my baby’s naps, I created Hot Money Mom.
Hot Money Mom aims to reduce the financial stress that so many mothers quietly carry.
I wanted a place where moms could learn about making money decisions that will matter in the long run, and where personal finance is explained clearly and in a fun way. A place where we talk about the things no one ever explained to us but are expected to somehow know:
How mat leave income really works
How daycare costs work
How to approach an RESP & grow it
How to invest without feeling intimidated
How to make practical money decisions that actually matter
Hot Money Mom exists to give you clarity, confidence, and a sense of control. To make money feel less scary and to show that you can build wealth while still enjoying the small joys that keep you going.
Because moms deserve wealth & their latte too.
